Mission

Lead collaborative and multidisciplinary research projects at the forefront of medical and pharmaceutical science to produce biologically inspired therapeutic solutions for global health challenges that will diagnose prevent, cure and alleviate the symptoms of disease.

Research Strategy

Veeren takes a collaborative and multidisciplinary approach to academic and industrial research, which has enabled him to develop excellent leadership, teamwork and communication skills on a broad range of scientific disciplines. This has enabled him to establish strong long-term collaborative partnerships with national and international institutes that have produced impactful research. He endeavours to continue to develop these skills to lead projects at the forefront of medical and pharmaceutical research.

Innovative vaccine identification pathways

The first point of contact for macroparasites and microorganisms to the body’s immune system is its surface.

I am aim to develop pathways for the direct identification of surface antigens from parasite surface for their application as potential therapeutics solutions, such as vaccines, to overcome infection that affects billions of people globally.

Augmenting Sub-cellular analytics

The majority of changes that result in disease states occur at the sub-cellular level, which are challenging to observe due to absence of technology.

I have developed fluorescent nanosensors for pH, Oxygen and temperature that provide accurate ratiometric characterization of complex microenvironments that could diagnose disease and contribute to the identification of biological process to overcome prevent pathology.

Model Organism DEvelopment

Caenorhabditis elegans, a free-living transparent nematode, is the most completely understood animal on the planet.

I am aim to study this model organism, through the application of newly developed analytical tools, to improve the understanding of healthy and disease states, and ultimately produce new biologically inspired therapeutics to prevent and cure pathology.
